Guide: How to Set Up the Steady Rest
1. Gather Your Tools and Components
-
Steady Rest base assembly with adjustable V-rod
- Universal mounting hardware (included)
- Allen wrenches or hex keys
- Clean cloth for surface prep
2. Choose and Prep Your Mounting Surface
- Ideal on a flat, stable surface—like a shooting bench, tree stand, UTV panel, or blind window
- Use the cloth to wipe down the surface—clear debris for optimal grip
3. Position the Steady Rest Base
- Center the V-rod so the firearm rests comfortably and aligns naturally
- Orient the base to allow easy access to windage/elevation adjustments
4. Fasten the Mounting Bracket
- Select the correct bracket for your mounting surface
- Secure tightly with hex key to eliminate movement—don’t overtighten to avoid damage
5. Attach the V‑Rod and Set Height
- Loosen the V-rod, lift your firearm (or camera) into position
- Adjust the V-rod height so the object is snug without strain
6. Fine‑Tune Alignment
- With firearm in cradle, make small tweaks to ensure level aim
- Check lateral alignment and that the barrel runs freely through the V
7. Lock Everything in Place
- Once aligned, secure all screws—mounting bracket, base, and V-rod
- Do a final shake test to confirm stability with firearm in place
8. Test in Real‑World Conditions
- Take a few dry runs (no firing) to check for slippage or rattles
- For rifle use, proceed to live testing under controlled conditions
